Webb P. Chamberlain, Jr., MD (1910-2003)

Dr. Chamberlain was a charter member of AAPOS and its 1980 President. He completed his B.A. at Ohio Wesleyan, M.D. at Western Reserve, ophthalmology residency at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and additional research training at Columbia (D. Med Sc.). After serving in the 4th General Hospital Corps stationed in the Pacific during World War II, he returned to his private practice in his hometown Cleveland, particularly specializing in his love of pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus. He was accepted into the American Ophthalmological Society in 1954 with his thesis entitled “Ocular Motility in the Horizontal Plane: An Experimental Study of the Primary and Secondary Horizontal Rotators in the Rhesus Monkey”. With his clinical recognition and excellent teaching of the ophthalmology residents for nearly 35 years at the University Hospitals and the Cleveland VA Medical Center, he rose to Clinical Professor Emeritus at Case Western Reserve University by 1985.
