An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor (M.D. or D.O.) who knows all about eyes. They:

- Some also study new treatments for eye problems.
- Some study special parts of the eye or special eye problems
Optometrist (Vision Care Provider)
Optometrists are people who check how well you can see. They:
- Are not medical doctors, but they do study eyes for many years.
- Can give glasses or contacts
- Can spot some eye problems
- Can give some eye medicine
Optician (Glasses Maker)
Opticians helps you pick out the right glasses or contacts. They:
- Don’t check eyes or give medicine
- Make sure glasses fit well
